On the Night the Son of God Was Born
They came into a stable, for no room was there in sight,
And laid him in a manger on that brilliantly clear night,
Strangers chased a star above and came upon the scene,
On the night the Son of God was born...
Shepherds heard the strains of Angel voices in the air,
As three Magi started on their way from "East of Everywhere"
A hush descended on the world and all of life was stilled,
On the night the Son of God was born.
In that town of Bethlehem, so far across the sea,
There was born a Savior to ransom you and me,
To take upon himself our sins and give us victory,
To live and serve and in faith and charity...
Our years on Earth are limited, the enemy is time,
And life may elude our efforts to make the journey rhyme,
A simple clue was given us one night in Galilee
When the blessed Son of God was born...
(instrumental break)
Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem, so far by sea or wing,
You gave to us the Christ Child, who made our spirits sing
Came to teach us how to live in hopeful charity
Who lived and died to set our spirits free,
Our days on Earth are limited, the enemy is time,
And life may elude our efforts to make the journey rhyme,
A starting clue was given us one night in Galilee
When the blessed Son of God was born...
